What Are the Odds of Winning Lotto in Australia?

Before you buy a lottery ticket, you should know what you're up against. Here are the jackpot odds for every major Australian lottery, ranked from easiest to hardest:

LotteryJackpot Odds (per game)Cost/Game
Yourtown1 in 500,000$15.00
Super 661 in 1 million$1.15
Saturday Gold Lotto1 in 8.1 million$0.96
Weekday Windfall1 in 8.1 million$0.68
Lucky Lotteries Mega1 in 9.5 million$5.70
Dream Home Art Union1 in 14.3 million$2.00
Lucky Lotteries Super1 in 18.4 million$2.30
Set for Life1 in 38.3 million$0.68
Oz Lotto1 in 62.9 million$1.50
Powerball1 in 134.5 million$1.58

Odds per game vs odds per dollar

The table above shows odds per game, but that doesn't account for the different ticket prices. A fairer comparison is odds per dollar spent. If a game costs $0.68 per entry, your dollar buys about 1.5 entries. If it costs $5.70, your dollar buys less than 0.2 entries.

When you adjust for price, the rankings shift. Super 66 at $1.15 per game gives you much better odds per dollar than Yourtown at $15 per ticket, even though Yourtown has the best raw odds.

Better odds don't always mean better value

This is the part most people miss. A lottery with 1 in 500,000 odds sounds fantastic — until you realise the prize is $2.8 million and the ticket costs $15. Meanwhile, a lottery with 1 in 134 million odds might be sitting on a $150 million jackpot at $1.58 per game.

Value depends on the ratio of what you could win to what you spend and how likely you are to win. All three factors matter, and they change every day as jackpots grow and reset.

That's why we built Lotto Logic

Comparing odds alone is misleading. Comparing jackpots alone is misleading. You need to factor in odds, jackpot size, ticket price, expected shares, and other-division returns — all at once, updated daily.

The Lotto Logic leaderboard does exactly that. One number per lottery, updated every morning. If you're buying a ticket anyway, check which one is the smart buy today.
